Three from CC are finalists in essay contest
Three Catholic Central students were among 18 finalists in a field of about 250 who submitted entries in this year’s President Gerald R. Ford Student Essay Challenge. They were second-place winner Steve Jakubowski, Emily Prins, who earned a top-six honorable mention, and Maggie Weighner. Steve was awarded a savings bond.

The topic was integrity, according to instructor Tiffany Marrinan. “Although each … took a different approach, all [of the essays] revealed the character, skill, and intelligence of our students,” she said. “Emily wrote of how much she values the sacrifices her family has made to send her to Catholic Central, Maggie wrote of personal choices she has made and Steven’s intellectual approach was incredibly thought-provoking.”
The students were honored in a ceremony at the Gerald R. Ford Museum on Feb. 21.
