Vision and Strategic Priorities
The vision and strategic priorities were adopted by the Board of Directors of Grand Rapids Catholic Secondary Schools at their meeting on August 13, 2010.
Vision
Catholic Central and West Catholic High Schools of the Diocese of Grand Rapids will continue to be renowned as two quality Catholic schools that prepare students to realize their full potential as active participants in their faith communities and the marketplace. As educators and advocates of the Catholic faith, our schools strive to pass on the Gospel message of Christ. Students choosing to continue their education will graduate from colleges and universities at a rate that ranks among the best of all high schools. Grand Rapids Catholic Central and West Catholic High Schools will achieve these aspirations through realizing the following strategic priorities:
Community of Faith Education in Christ is integral to the mission of the Catholic Church. Our schools will be communities of faith, creating environments where students, teachers, staff, parents, and community members are engaged to encounter the living God who, in Jesus Christ, reveals His transforming love and truth. Our communities of faith will assist parents as the primary educators of their children in teaching the truths of the Catholic faith so that all will participate in the sacramental life and mission of the Catholic Church. As educators and advocates of the Catholic faith, our schools strive to pass on the Gospel message of Christ.
Student Academic Success Our graduates will realize their true potential. Our schools will rank among the best high schools in the nation as measured by applicable standardized and specialized tests. We will accomplish this by educating all students who will positively contribute to the academic environment by being active learners and invested students. We will develop and advance programs to engage our students in and out of the classroom. Our graduates will understand the value of choosing higher education, and we will assist them in the process of admission to the school and program identified in their educational plan. We will identify and address barriers to college admission. We will track our students’ successes after graduation and benchmark against our peers. We will assess on-line learning environments to enhance academic programs and prepare students for success in higher education.
Culture of Quality We will continue to develop and maintain a culture based on educational excellence and quality service. We will develop a culture of accountability, measurement, empowerment, and continuous improvement. We will expand research and assessment capabilities to develop a comprehensive and data-driven system to guide decisions that add value to our programs and community. We will align ourselves with the Malcolm Baldrige Principles of Quality.
Enrollment We will develop strategies to increase enrollment of students who are motivated to reach their potential and eager to meet the standards of our Mission.
Service and Operational Excellence We will employ talented and diverse teachers and staff based upon a culture of excellence founded in the Catholic faith, inclusive decision-making, empowerment, accountability, and employee development and recognition. We will establish and exceed benchmarks for communication and service excellence, both internally and externally, and measure our performance through annual surveys.
Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity As a Catholic community, we respect and celebrate multiple perspectives and diversity of thought that reinforce Catholic teachings. We will engage in global and inter-cultural experiences to enrich our students’ worldview.
Financial Viability and Fundraising We will be fiscally responsible with the financial resources entrusted to us by operating under the tenets of a sustainable business model. We will identify means to diversify our revenue sources and be a resource for our communities. We will develop strategies to increase fundraising to support our programs and vision.
Alumni and Community Engagement We will develop strategies to engage our students, parents, alumni and community. We will partner with the community in ways that will add value to our schools and community.
Facilities and Technology Excellence We will develop standards for our schools to ensure that facilities, classrooms and technology advance our Mission and Vision. We will use technology to facilitate delivery of integrated services. We will develop a long-range plan for facilities and technological development and maintenance.
Sustainability We will strive to be environmentally and fiscally responsible and support local businesses.
Service Learning and Extra-Curricular Activities Students will have opportunities to engage in extra-curricular activities, service learning and volunteer programs that further develop their skills, enhance the student experience, and reinforce our Catholic faith. Those participating in such activities will excel in the classroom and compete with integrity and distinction indicative of our Catholic faith.
Marketing and Communication We will be known for our Catholic faith, academic excellence, and the success of our graduates. We will develop and implement promotional marketing and communications strategies to support our promise.
