Catholic Central’s First Annual Research Symposium to Highlight Student-Faculty Collaborative Research
For the past two years, seven high school students have been experiencing the world of scientific research through an innovative program at Catholic Central High School. As participants in the high school’s science research program, the students have been working on original research from the study of meteorites and how beans affect colon cancer to mood disorders and autism under the mentorship of a professional scientist.

Mountains are beautiful and majestic, but they can also present real obstacles and challenges to climbers. This was truly the case for Bill Barkeley, a 1980 Catholic Central alumnus who is both visually and hearing impaired. His deafness combined with his greatly diminished eyesight made his journey up Mount Kilimanjaro a difficult exploit. Yet, these obstacles did not stop him.
